Wollastonite for metallurgical applications
Metallurgical protection slag, covering agent
Mainly used as base materials for producing particle slab continuous casting, mould casting protection slag and carbon-free protection slag. The stable composition of wollastonite prevents the ingot blank from defects and makes the surface smooth. The existence of CaO and SiO2 in wollastonite in the form of chemical combination and the mixing ratio right within the alkaline level required by continuous casting help minimize the type of base materials involved in the slag, simplifies the process and provides good thermal stability for the protection slag. The low Al2O3 content in wollastonite helps increase the Al2O3 absorption of the protection slag.
Slag conditioner and low aluminum premelted synthesized slag for steelmaking
The stable chemical property and proper alkalinity of wollastonite have made it possible for small wollastonite pieces to be directly used as slag conditioner or low aluminum premelted synthesized slag to deoxidize molten steel, increase the fluidity of molten steel and remove nonmetallic impurities in molten steel. It is an ideal metallurgical additive for smelting special purpose steel and pure steel.
Welding material and welding flux
In electric welding rod application, wollastonite is used in the welding rod coating to accelerate fusion and increase the fluidity of the remaining slag with many years of application outside China. When used in welding rod coating, wollastonite is energy saving, air bubble resistant, increases the weld strength, facilitates the surface smoothness of the weld, improves the metal transfer and accelerates the melting of the coating. Our wollastonite, in particular, is suitable for making special welding rods and submerged arc welding flux for its low impurity and high quality.
